Derry, NH (and out of Maine!)

The Views from the garden

As our wonderful month in Maine was nearing the end, we started looking at our options for routes home. Our loyal readers will of course not expect us to follow a beeline to our house, and they’d be correct. In fact, we’ve plans to make a stop in Connecticut. Oh look, Derry, New Hampshire is on the way – let’s see if we can drop in on Chris and Kim!

Vermont View, New Hampshire View

We first saw Chris and Kim’s Winnebago in a trailhead parking lot in Newfoundland last summer. Theirs is a shiny new version of ours which, of course, caught our eye, as did their New Hampshire license plates. We ran into them a little later on the trail, started chatting, and eventually realized that we’d all seen and noticed each other’s vehicle around and about. Their adventure travel style is remarkably similar to ours in many ways, and we hit it off nicely. We crossed paths several times in Gros Morne National Park, and again in St. John’s. We even got together last winter (without motorhomes) to see the touring Broadway show Come From Away, in Burlington VT.

This was a quick visit with lots of travel talk. Considering how much each View has traveled in the US, much of the conversation was filling each other in on our respective gaps… You’ve been to Arkansas?! How’d you like it? What did you see? And, of course, Doug and Chris talked tech until the rest of us had to go off somewhere else…

Doug, Sue, Natalie, Chris, Kim

A gorgeous day for sitting on the deck, Chris fired up the grill, and we cooked up veggie kabobs, chicken, tofu and potatoes. Although we’ve heard lots of stories, we’ve yet to meet their sons, Adam and Nick. However, our timing was spot on to meet their daughter-in-law Natalie, who was visiting for a day while on a business trip. Fortunately, Natalie also likes to travel, so she was more than tolerant when the conversations moved (again) to the elders’ adventures. (You’ve been to Nebraska? Yes! Oh, you’ve gotta see the Sandhills…)

Time enough for coffee in the morning, and we were off for our next visit. We’ll cross paths again for sure…
