We’ve wanted to visit the Pacific Coast in southern California for a long time. It took us a couple of tries, and we finally did it. Yay!

Once we got accustomed to the roads and the driving – our road-width record is the San Diego Freeway, 9 lanes in each direction at one point – and the density of people and housing, we settled into the pace and found the beauty of the region. The 2 weeks we got to spend with friends and family in and around LA and San Diego were just wonderful!

Taking a short break before starting the trek back to Vermont, we stayed at the last available campsite at the only campground near the beach where we could find a reservation. It turns out Huntington Beach is a pretty cool place! From our campsite, we could see Rancho Palos Verdes, cranes working at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and the downtown Los Angeles skyline. Day and night, we could see the huge container ships lined up to drop off and pick up cargo at North America’s busiest port.

We’re glad we got to linger a bit before leaving the coast and heading east. The universe left us a beautiful sunset as a parting gift.
