A Few More Covers

The quasi-project continues. Here are some more covers from fall of 2021 and into the winter. A few of these are actual videos. (You can also see most of these and more on my YouTube channel, FWIW – speaking of which…)

For What It’s Worth…

…here is another cover I just finished. The song is For What It’s Worth, which was written by Steven Stills and performed by Buffalo Springfield in 1966.

Again fwiw, I’m pretty happy with how this one came out. I “played” the drums in using a midi keyboard, then messed with them – rather a lot – by hand, under Sue’s careful supervision, of course. All the guitar parts were played by me, as well as bass and vocals. One guitar has tremolo added “in post”, and everything (drums, guitars, bass, vocals) has a little reverb. Photo is of the sun rising outside our house.

Lean On Me

Bill Withers’ tune from 1972. I don’t play keyboard, so I played the piano part on guitars. Drums were played on midi controller into the DAW. Guitars, bass guitar, hand claps and vocals all came from my analog self. Photo is of Mount Sir Donald in the Rogers Pass area of Canada’s Glacier National Park.

If Not For You

If not for Bob Dylan, George Harrison never would have recorded this song. If not for you, probably neither would I. Four guitars (L&R acoustic rhythm, high elect. rhythm, slide guitar), bass guitar, and vocals are all me. Drums were programmed in DAW. Photo is Seton Lake near Lillooet, British Columbia.

Don’t Think Twice…

…it’s alright. A cover of Bob Dylan’s classic song.

Down The Road A Piece

A Chuck Berry cover. Lyrics came from the original Will Bradley Trio version of the song, but the rest of the look and feel is Chuck Berry. All the tracks are Doug – a drum groove (programmed by hand in Studio One), bass guitar, 2 rhythm guitars, 1 lead guitar and vocal.

Gentle On My Mind/LA Freeway

Covers of John Hartford’s song Gentle On My Mind (made even more famous by Glen Campbell) and Guy Clark’s LA Freeway (also a hit for Jerry Jeff Walker). These were for mic testing and singing practice, and they came out ok, so here you go.

Matchbox Blues

Here is a cover of Albert King’s Matchbox Blues. Doug programmed the drums in the DAW (with advice from Sue), but he played actual bass, rhythm and lead guitars, and sang the words out loud. The photo is from a hike we did near Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island, BC in 2019. It hasn’t anything to do with the song, but we like it.

The Sound of Silence

Simon and Garfunkle.
